I finally have a chance to report on "The Savage" - the adventure race Mark and I did last Sunday up in Brandywine Creek State Park, Delware. Also on our team, the Dominant Negatives (nerdy genetics reference), was our friend Caleb who did the race with Mark last year.
The weather was perfect - a little overcast and the rain held off til after we were finished. The race is not just for time, but teams earn points along the way for locating checkpoints in each of the trekking, canoeing, and bicycling legs. Points start getting deducted for coming in after the 6-hr mark, so our main goal was to get as many points as possible and finish on time. I was glad I had been running and biking a little to train, but the course was definitely more challenging than I had anticipated.
There were 100 2- and 3-person teams, and we came in 8th out of 14 teams in the coed 3's category. We crossed the finish line at 5:56! We were all pretty happy with how we'd performed, as well as exhausted, bloodied (thorns), and brusied (I took a little spill in the mountain biking portion).

Sprinting to the finish line!
