I'm not quite as knowledgeable about the night sky as Dad, but he has passed on his fascination with the heavens above to me. Living in the city, we are often deprived of natural beauty. City life is fun and has many benefits... but in the midst of buildings, asphalt and the busy bustle of Baltimore I sometimes find myself missing life's simple bounty of trees, grass and wildlife. Since I can't necessarily see these things around me, I try to remind myself often to look UP, at that big beautiful canvas that God paints anew for us every day. He is quite the artist indeed, especially His sunset collection. I love watching the sun set from the roof... a sunset is a sunset - gorgeous whether it's over a mountain, ocean or downtown Bmore :o)
The other night I was out back waiting for the pugs to take care of business and noticed the moon reflecting off the clouds in a beautiful halo - see pics. The light of the city makes it hard to see all those stars that my dad can see, but I know he can see the same moon. No matter how far apart we are, I take comfort in knowing that we can both look up and see the same sun or moon beaming down.
Goodnight friends, goodnight Dad, and goodnight moon :)
Reminds me of "Arts Alive", way back when... You singing "Somewhere Out There"...
ReplyDeleteSomewhere out there beneath the pale moonlight
Someone's thinking of me and loving me tonight
Somewhere out there someone's saying a prayer
That we'll find one another in that big somewhere out there
And even though I know how very far apart we are
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
It helps to think we're sleeping underneath the same big sky
Somewhere out there if love can see us through
Then we'll be together somewhere out there
Out where dreams come true
Love,
Mom
