On Tuesday, Mark and I had the privilege of attending the Inauguration of our 44th President (and first African-American President). We are fortunate not only to live so close to our nation's capital, but also to have a friend who works on Capitol Hill who was able to score some extra tickets to the big event. (Thanks Jed!)
The crowds were unreal - millions of people as far as the eye could see! Despite rising at 4:30 am and getting down to DC quickly on the train, we were unable to reach the security checkpoint to be granted access onto the Mall. Thousands of other ticket-holders were jam-packed in the streets, waiting to get in... and many never did. Luckily for us, the security checks must have been called off and we were able to secure an awesome viewing spot behind the reflecting pool near the Capitol.
As President Obama was sworn in, the crowds were going crazy and you could feel the electricity - see our video below. There were people of all races, children, elderly folks, disabled individuals, foreigners - everyone united. It is something we will never forget, and we pray that this great country can embrace change and come together to build a brighter future!
