A walk in the park

I spent most of the week at the Convention Center in DC for the 60th annual American Society of Human Genetics meeting. It was very stimulating listening to so many excellent talks and hearing all the cutting edge research in the field. Since the conference was just "down the road" I decided to carpool with a colleague, drive part way, and take the metro into the city rather than stay in a hotel all week. It worked out pretty slick (minus I-95 coming to a complete standstill 3 out of the 5 days), but it required leaving home before dawn and leaving the CC after dark at the end of the day.

After being cooped up all week and barely seeing the sun, I needed to get out! I seized the brisk fall day, grabbed the pugs and my camera, and ventured off to Patterson Park. Surprisingly, I found a lot to capture in the few blocks between our house and park. There is always some little bit of beauty to be found, just by taking a closer look at things we typically pass by without a glance.

Enjoy my walk in the park :o)
Hope you are having a nice weekend!

  2. oh my gosh, Linds...your photography is lovely. You can share your walks in the park any day...I've been wanting a fancier camera, but am worried it would be dropped or mistreated in the shuffle that is our "loading and unloading" drama every time we go somewhere. But perhaps now that the baby is one...what kind do you have? Have you been happy with it?

  3. Thanks G & K! The pugs do love to ham it up! Thanks for reading, friends :o)

Katie, we have a Nikon D3000. It's their DSLR for beginners. I really love it and I don't even know much about photography. Most of the time I shoot in auto mode, and the photos are SO much better than those from my old point & shoot. It's a nice investment because it still has the manual features of an advanced camera - once I finally learn to use them!! Definitely a little bulkier and you will have to be more careful with it... but you will love the quality! For a bit more, the D5000 records HD videos if you want to be able to capture the girls in action w/o needing a separate video cam. And you can always buy fancier lenses later to keep the up-front cost down.

Good luck! Looking forward to seeing more fun photos of your little ladies :o)
