Camping in Virginia

This past weekend we drove down to Syria, VA for the 3rd annual Old Rag Mountain climb, organized by our friends the Links. The mountain is in Shenandoah National Park and makes for a fun, yet challenging day hike.

Mark and I brought the puglets along for the adventure, so we weren't able to make the climb this year. We rode down with our friend Tim, Mark's hockey teammate, and had a blast sitting around enjoying the lovely summer weather and playing dominoes while waiting for the rest of the crew to arrive.

When everyone showed up, we played volleyball and frisbee, drank beers and wine, grilled over the campfire, made s'mores, and laughed the night away! Sunday came too quickly, and as the hikers departed for the mountain (and ended up seeing a bear!), Mark, Tim and I cooked up bacon & egg omelets and taters on the grill and indulged in few more breaths of fresh mountain air before packing up the tents and driving back up to B'more.

  1. We had a great time, so glad you could make it. We'll probably do Old Rag again - as a day hike, so if you can find the Pugs a sitter for a day, you can do it.

I've also heard that Old Rag is great in the winter when the trees don't have leaves so the views are unobstructed...
